Feige reveals Fantastic Four as MCU's first period film

Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, has revealed the most recent information regarding The Fantastic Four. In the movie, Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays Ben Grimm/The Thing, Vanessa Kirby plays Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn plays Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Pedro Pascal plays Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic. Feige has disclosed that the movie is a historical drama with a 1960s setting. Feige stated, "It is a period film, and there was another piece of art we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air making a 4 symbol," on The Official Marvel Podcast. In that picture, a cityscape was seen. Many astute observers noted that the cityscape bore no resemblance to either the New York of the 1960s or the New York that we knew and loved. Those are astute insights. Feige also said that The Fantastic Four filming will start the Monday following Comic-Con, July 29. In addition, Paul Walter-Hauser, Ralph Ineson, John Malkovich, Julia Garner as Silver Surfer, and Natasha Lyonne sta...

Henry Cavill: Potential MCU Roles

We're looking at 5 characters that Henry Cavill may portray for Marvel Studios, none of which are Wolverine, in light of the ongoing rumors that he is being considered for a part in the MCU

For a number of years, there have been persistent rumors that Henry Cavill might join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But we found out last night that the former Superman is reportedly in talks to star in Deadpool & Wolverine this summer as a Wolverine Variant.

We don't buy it, but Cavill deserves another chance to portray a superhero—or a supervillain, for that matter—after being dismissed by DC Studios and James Gunn after making a brief comeback as the Man of Steel in Black Adam.

In addition to portraying Superman, Cavill has demonstrated his versatility as an actor by taking on a variety of roles in films. We know he can contribute a lot to the MCU in the Multiverse Saga and beyond, having starred as the tough-faced Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher and as a dangerous major bad in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.

By using the "Next" or "View List" buttons below, you can see our recommendations regarding Cavill's potential MCU role.

Beta Ray Bill

Walt Simonson's creation, Beta Ray Bill, is a Korbinite and a descendant of an extraterrestrial species whose planet was devastated by Surtur. Selected by his people to wield the formidable Stormbreaker, he subsequently demonstrates his worthiness to raise Mjolnir, Thor's hammer, and emerges as one of the Thunder God's most formidable allies.

Cavill will probably play a CG character in this, but it will still be enjoyable for him.

It would be good for Marvel Studios to highlight his amazing body by having him play the hammer-wielding hero with prosthetics or just a VFX-created head. We'd also love to watch Cavill and Chris Hemsworth argue back and forth; if a fresh filmmaker takes over for Taika Waititi, the outcome might be amazing.

Silver Surfer

It looks like Silver Surfer won't be joining Galactus in the new Fantastic Four. Rather, another Herald will join the Devourer of Worlds, leaving the possibility of Norrin Radd appearing at some point unchecked.

Radd was from the planet Zenn-La in the comics. Radd pledged to be Galactus' herald, traveling the universe to locate new worlds for his lord to consume in exchange for sparing his home in order to save his planet from the planet-eating evil guy.

We believe Cavill could play the Defender well on screen since it's an emotionally charged and compelling trip, and he's physically strong enough for the role.

Beast

Though some very outrageous rumors about Cavill playing Wolverine have circulated, we believe he might be a better fit for another X-Men character. Yes, we are speaking of none other than Dr. Henry "Hank" McCoy!

We believe he would be a great fit for the tough-as-nails, extremely intellectual superhero if Marvel Studios decides to establish the mutant squad as heroes after Avengers: Secret Wars. Of course, this won't work if they introduce the team as teenagers.

It's easy to overlook Beast's immense strength, and we'd really love to see Cavill accept the role of Dark Beast as well.

Doctor Doom

According to rumors, Doctor Doom will make his MCU debut in The Fantastic Four's post-credits scene. This means that, at least temporarily, the actor chosen to play the villain will simply need to provide their voice.

Of course, we'll eventually find out what's behind the mask, and it's fascinating to think that Cavill and Pedro Pascal may face off as Mister Fantastic.

This role will allow Cavill far more to work with than Superman ever could, whether it's examining Doom's skill with science and magic, his ruthless personality as Latveria's dictator, or even an eventual effort to be a superhero as the infamous Iron Man. We would like to see him play only one character more.

Captain Britain

Even though we are aware of how inevitable this is, damn it! In order to make this superhero feel believable and equally important to the MCU as Chris Evans was as Captain America, Cavill would be the ideal Brian Braddock/Captain Britain.

He is, after all, a completely different kind of hero, and Marvel Studios has the option to investigate his connections to the British government, his role as the Multiversal Captain Britain Corps' defender, or his leadership of the valiant Excalibur. Why not just the above, in fact?

It's difficult to imagine a more fitting actor to embody Captain Britain on screen than Cavill, and this casting decision may have been made long before. The previous Superman would be a fantastic fit for this role.
