Feige reveals Fantastic Four as MCU's first period film

Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, has revealed the most recent information regarding The Fantastic Four. In the movie, Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays Ben Grimm/The Thing, Vanessa Kirby plays Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn plays Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Pedro Pascal plays Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic. Feige has disclosed that the movie is a historical drama with a 1960s setting. Feige stated, "It is a period film, and there was another piece of art we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air making a 4 symbol," on The Official Marvel Podcast. In that picture, a cityscape was seen. Many astute observers noted that the cityscape bore no resemblance to either the New York of the 1960s or the New York that we knew and loved. With Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's Deadpool 3 announced, MCU fans may be wondering if an X-Men movie will be following after. 

a long-awaited X-Men movie being alluded to and teased in the MCU, here's everything that has been confirmed about the tent-pole superhero team. Like many of the Marvel properties, the ownership of the X-Men characters has not always been straightforward, as the X-Men was initially the property of 20th Century Fox - beginning with Bryan Singer’s X-Men (2000) and ending with The New Mutants (2020). Similar to the comics, the X-Men movie timeline depicted the discrimination the X-Men and mutants faced daily as they tried to fight non-mutants for equality. The stories deeply resonated with the world, particularly since they symbolized to real life historical events. 


Marvel’s X-Men Confirmed

Despite the numerous amounts of easter eggs and hints to the superhero group, Kevin Feige has remained coy about when and how the X-Men will be introduced to the MCU. However, Feige has hinted that fans of the MCU can expect to see more mutants occasions in the next couple of years. According to reports, Feige teased Wolverine and Deadpool's MCU arrival, as the pair will be introduced to the franchise in Deadpool 3, with Hugh Jackman set to return as Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynolds. The purchase of the X-Men rights is confirmation enough that Disney will eventually have an X-Men movie, but Feige’s hints also indicate he has not forgotten about the property. 


Marvel’s X-Men Release Date

No release date has been announced for Marvel's X-Men, but with more films being announced for the multiverse saga, Marvel's wiggle room for an  This probably means that the X-Men movie will arrive in Phase 7, which should take place in the second half of 2026.  However, there is precedent for the MCU to release films in between the final Avengers films of the saga.  Between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel were both released.  There's still time to solve this MCU mystery before Phases 5 and 6 are completed, and make a surprise announcement that the X-Men will arrive before Phase 7. 


Marvel's X-Men cast

Who will be cast as the X-Men in future Marvel movies remains to be seen, but the importance of the characters means they will likely attract popular and talented actors.  Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry and many others of Hollywood's elite have taken part in the X-Men films.  There should be huge interest from current movie stars in joining this iconic franchise.  One actor has been confirmed to return as one of the X-Men, and that's Hugh Jackman as Wolverine for his MCU debut.  Jackman will join Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in the proposed MCU Deadpool 3 for release on May 3, 2024.

No story details have been released for the upcoming Marvel  What the challenge will be for Kevin Feige and Disney is fitting the X-Men into the broader MCU.  This will be a difficult task, there are many more mutants on Earth than other superheroes combined, so explaining why they are suddenly appearing when they have not made any appearances for previous events of the MCU.  There are several ways the MCU could solve this puzzle.
