Tom Hiddleston remains tight-lipped on Loki's MCU future

A fresh update on Tom Hiddleston's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is provided as the veteran Loki actor discusses whether or not he is finished.

When asked if his time as Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is at an end, Tom Hiddleston has a fresh response. The conclusion of Loki season 2 altered the destiny of one of the most enduring characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, turning the God of Mischief into the God of Time, almost a full year ago. But in the MCU, no character is really out of the picture since Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios crew are continuously coming up with new methods to bring popular characters back, even if their story may not have had a conventional ending.

Since the conclusion of Loki season 2 in November 2023, there has been much discussion regarding whether or not Hiddleston survived. The British actor was questioned about it once more during a recent visit on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Even though he had previously provided a cautious update regarding a possible Loki season 3, Hiddleston responded differently this time, saying as much:

Not sure. Really, I have no idea. I'm aware that season 2 has brought the story to a satisfying finish, in my opinion. I know that he's made some odd decisions that may add up to make him appear like a villain, and that there was a period when he made some poor decisions. That was a rough day at work, you know—trying to take over New York and the Avengers having to come together to defeat him. I hope you see that, after 14 years, he's starting to make a few slightly more kind, brave, and giving decisions.

The MCU May See Two Significant Returns for Loki

Despite his demise, The Multiverse Saga contains certain pivotal chapters that open the door for Loki to return to the MCU. One of these is the lone MCU film in 2024, in which Hiddleston might play Deadpool and Wolverine, considering the TVA's role in the movie and the clear reference to the Sacred Timeline still being in effect. The idea in the CinemaCon video virtually proves that Deadpool and Wolverine take place before Loki's demise. Given that Deadpool and Wolverine's plot revolves around safeguarding the Sacred Timeline, this may be a natural method to include Hiddleston's Loki in at least a cameo.

Avengers Secret Wars, which is expected to be a soft relaunch of the MCU going forward, is the second MCU movie in which Loki might conceivably appear. It stands to reason that the controller of the timelines would be involved in any significant multiverse story that brought disparate worlds together. Even if it creates a new status quo, it's feasible that Loki's new role as the God of Time will prove to be incredibly beneficial in Avengers: Secret Wars and even the main reason the heroes save the multiverse.

In the end, if season 2 of Loki was intended to be Hiddleston's last appearance as the character, he is right to say that it was a satisfying finale to his role. But given that Marvel Studios is cognizant of the fandom's adoration for Loki, his return to the MCU is only a matter of time. For the time being, however, fans may revisit each season of Loki as well as other MCU films in which Hiddleston has appeared on Blu-Ray, DVD, and streaming services.
